چکیده

We summarize some current trends in embedded systems design and point out some of their characteristics, such as the chasm between analytical and computational models, and the gap between safetycritical and best-effort engineering practices. We call for a coherent scientific foundation for embedded systems design, and we discuss a few key demands on such a foundation: the need for encompassing several manifestations of heterogeneity, and the need for constructivity in design. We believe that the development of a satisfactory Embedded Systems Design Science provides a timely challenge and opportunity for reinvigorating

Re-Framing the Knowledge to Action Challenge Through NIHR Knowledge Mobilisation Research Fellows; Comment on “CIHR Health System Impact Fellows: Reflections on ‘Driving Change’ Within the Health System”

The ambition of the Canadian Institutes for Health Research Health System Impact (HSI) Fellowship initiative to modernise the health system is impressive. Embedded researchers who work between academia and nonacademic settings offer an opportunity to reframe the problem of evidence uptake as a product of a gap between those who produce knowledge and those who use it. As such, there has been an ...

Model-driven development of embedded systems on OSGi platforms

Large and complex systems design is still being a challenge even bigger when developing embedded, distributed or real-time systems. OSGi is a platform created to reduce some of the software design problems, increasing reusability modularity, etc. This paper describes a methodology based in MDA that aims at real-time embedded systems, The approach is based on a target platform using OSGi and thu...

Automated Design Space Exploration on System Level for Embedded Systems

The design of embedded systems has to address several interacting design dimensions to implement parallelism, distribution over different locations, hard real-time requirements and design space exploration today. Thus a structured design process has to deal with heterogeneous requirements and restrictions. The integration of dedicated tasks for HW-design and SW-design as well as real-time opera...

Towards the Better Design, Implementation, and Simulation of Embedded Wireless Systems

Embedded network systems are used to support a variety of applications, from social networking [1] to saving lives in the battlefield [2]. Where size does not correspond to simplicity, these systems, composed of tiny devices, impose several challenges in the design, implementation, and testing phases of their life cycle. This section describes the challenges we propose to solve – one in each st...

Position Statement for Panel on Grand Challenges in Embedded Software

Embedded software design is part of embedded system design, which by its very nature, requires a deep and coherent integration of competencies in software, hardware, and controller design. The scientific challenge is in setting up embedded systems as a new discipline, which systematically and even-handedly marries computation and physicality, performance and robustness. Our aim is not to discus...
